BAIDOA, Somalia – At least 13 people have been killed and 20 others wounded on Sunday in an explosion in north of Baidoa town, some 250km southwest of Somali capital, Mogadishu.

The explosion took place inside an internally displaced persons camp in northern outskirts of Baidoa, leaving 13 people dead, said, a witness, who asked to be anonymous.

He says many were celebrating Eid al Fitr occasion as the bomb explosion detonated.

Somali journalist, Ali Ilyas Abdullahi says at least 13 people, mainly civilians had lost their lives in the explosion.

Abdullahi quoting police source said the victims were taken into hospital.

Somali police in the area was unavailable to reach on the phone for comments on the bombing.

No group has so far claimed the responsibility for Sunday’s bomb attack.

But, such attacks are often carried out by al Shabaab, an al Qaeda linked group in Somalia.

The group was ousted out of the capital, Mogadishu, in 2011 by Somali army and African Union forces following joint military operations.

The rebel group has been battling the weak-western-backed government-based in Mogadishu for more than 10 years in Somalia.
