MOAGDISHU, Somalia – An alleged al Shabaab member has been sentenced to life imprisonment on Sunday by a Somali military court based in the capital, Mogadishu.
The court says the accused, Abdirahman Omar Abdi Dawale was found guilty of being membership of an al Qaeda linked al Shabaab.
In a statement, the court said, Dawale was among al Shabaab special fighters those carry out attacks on bases manned by African Union troops and country’s army.
He was also accused of taken part several attacks that targeted the coalition’s army bases in southern region of Somalia.
Dawale was arrested on September, 26, 2019 after he was injured by the country’s army forces in an operation carried out in Baladul Amin, an area near Afgoye town, some 30km south of Mogadishu, the statement reads.
It says he played key role in attacks on army base in Barire, Bulomarer, Barawe and Golweyn towns of Lower Shabelle region.
