Surgeon of MediCover Hospital (previously MaxCure Hospitals), Hitec City successfully conducted a life-saving surgery on a 70-year-old patient from Somalia. The patient was in a critical condition due to a bullet injury that had completely cut-off the urethra, the duct that transmit urine from the bladder.

A few months ago, Dahir afrah Mohamed, a farmer from Somalia, was caught in the middle of a shoot out between rival groups. A bullet tore into his urinary passage (urethra) and exited through his right buttock. While he was lucky to survive, but given the complicated nature of injuries, Dahir afrah Mohamed was struggling to pass urine. Multiple surgeries at various locations did not help and he was referred to MediCover Hospitals.

“As his urethra was completely cut off, to get the two ends together we had to cut off the pubic bone and mobilise both ends and suture them in a marathon five-hour surgery,” said Dr A V Ravi Kumar, Urologist, MediCover Hospitals.
