20 dead in Somalia clan fights

An official said that clashes that erupted in Lower Juba region in Somalia on Tuesday resulted in the death of 20 people and left 20 others wounded.

Jubbaland information minister, Abdi Hussein Ahmed, said that inter-clan clashes started in Kismayo town outskirts between two Somali clans over land issues.

The official said that “The two clans have been fighting for the last three days and this morning it started again. So far, 20 people mainly from the warring sides have been killed and more than 20 others wounded”.

Adding that “Jubbaland administration is trying to stop the fighting but our efforts have not succeeded yet”, he also said that al-Shabab activists were behind the clashes between the two clans.
