MOGADISHU, Somalia – At least one person has died and three others injured in a roadside bomb explosion near Awdhegle town, some 70km south of the Somali capital, Mogadishu.

The explosion killed district commissioner Mohamed Yarow for Awdhegle and injured three of his bodyguards, police officer said.

He says Mohamed died on the scene while the other victims were taken to hospital.

No group says it carried out the explosion.

But, such attacks are often carried out by Al Shabaab, an al Qaeda linked group battling the Mogadishu-based government.

The group was pushed out of Mogadishu capital in 2011 by Somali army troops and 22,000-strong African Union force in Somalia.

The rebel group also lost most of their strongholds, but it still controls large rural areas and remains the key threat to peace in Somalia.
