MOGADISHU — Somali military forces have recaptured Awdhegle town, some 70 km South of Mogadishu.

Somalia’s infantry commander Odawa Yusuf Rageh says the military forces had taken control of the town after the withdrawal of Al Shabaab militants.

Rageh hailed the capture of Awdhegle as a significant victory.

“This operation is part of the well-organized offensives currently underway in the Lower Shabelle region aimed at liberating all areas in the region”, he said.

Somali army forces backed by African Union troops also recaptured towns of Barire,
Sabid and Anole in the region earlier this year.
