AU Condemns Terrorist Attack in Somalia

An official statement assures on Sunday that the president of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, strongly condemned the terrorist attack perpetrated in a hotel in the port city of Kismayo, Somalia.
Mahamat also expressed his condolences to the relatives and friends of those who lost their lives, and wished the wounded quick recovery, according to the communication from the executive and administrative organization of the African Union (AU), headquartered in the capital of Ethiopia.

He also restated the AU steady and continued willingness to participate in the governmental management and support the efforts of the Somali people to achieve definitive stability and peace in that state of the Horn of Africa, east of the continent.

At least 26 citizens had been killed and 56 others had been injured after an attack for almost 12 hours against the Medina hotel in the Jubbada Hoose region of southern Somalia.

According to newspaper reports, the assault began last Friday afternoon, when a car bomb exploded at the entrance of the crowded building, right after armed men entered and began a confrontation with the security forces.

Al Shabab, the jihadist movement in Somalia, claimed responsibility for the attack in which two Chinese citizens were injured and three Kenyans, three Tanzanians, two Americans, a Canadian and a Briton lost their lives.
