MOGADISHU, Somalia – A heavy fighting broke out between local armed militias and al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab in Hiran region of central Somalia.
The fighting flared up between Halgan and Buloburde towns when local residents with weapons refused to pay taxes imposed by al Shabaab.
A local resident told state media that five al Shabaab fighters were killed in the fighting.
AGGM could not independently verify the exact casualties resulted on Sunday’s gun battle.
There was no immediate comment from Al Shabaab over the skirmish.
