Kenyan troops hit by al Shabaab explosion

MOGADISHU, Somalia – Somali armed group al Shabaab has claimed responsibility for a bomb attack on Kenyan Defense Forces’ military vehicle near Kenyan border town along Somalia.

The explosion targeted a vehicle carrying Kenyan troops while traveling through Garissa, a town close to Kenyan border, said in a statement released by Al Shabaab.

The group says the explosion destroyed an armored vehicle.

The attack comes a week after Al Shabaab claimed to have killed at least 5 Kenyan soldiers and injured 20 others in an ambush attack in Mandera town.

The al Qaeda linked al Shabaab carried out similar attacks in Kenyan soul in the last couple of years.
