MOGADISHU, Somalia – A high-level delegation led by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Kingdom of Norway Ine Marie Eriksen Søreide arrived on Monday in the Somali capital, Mogadishu.
Mrs. Eriksen Søreide and his delegation were warmly welcomed upon their arrival at the airport in Mogadishu.
Søreide was escorted to the state house in Mogadishu where she will hold talks with country’s leaders, including Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed, the president of Somalia.
The Norwegian and Somalia’s foreign ministers will discuss means of enhancing bilateral relations and cooperation.
Last year, Norway decided to recognize Somali passports after talks between the two countries held in the capital of Oslo.
Norwegian and Somali immigration authorities worked closely together over the last two years while sharing experiences in different matters related to immigration.
The decision which Norway recognized Somali passports does not influence on the visa requirements to Norway, which are strict. Non-EU/EEA citizens must apply for a visitor’s visa.
In general, visas to Somali passport holders may only be granted to applicants who are visiting Norway in an official capacity.
