Suspected al Shabaab gunmen have killed a regional official in Jowhar town, some 90km north of Somali capital, Mogadishu.
Abdirashid Haji, who was deputy administrator of Gambole in Middle Shabelle region was assassinated by men armed with pistols, a witness said.
He says the killers escaped from the scene uncaught.
Somali police from HirShabelle state started operation over the assassination.
No arrests have been made so far.
There was no claim of responsibility for the assassination.
But, such killings are often carried out by al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab.
