Somalia, US troops target al Shabaab base

MOGADISHU, Somalia – Somali especial troops backed by United States forces have carried out a joint operation against al Shabaab in the southern region of Somalia.

The operation was executed in an area near Torotorow a rebel-held town in lower Shabelle region near triggered fierce fighting, according to Risala, a local radio based in Mogadishu.

Risala quoting military sources said the coalition forces briefly seized Al Shabaab base and killed several militants.

But, it is unclear how many were killed.

But, the US military says a militant has been killed in an air strike in the town.

Somali military remains unviable to comment on the latest attack on Al Shabaab.

The attack comes as U.S. military rump up its air strikes targeting al Shabaab and Islamic state groups in Somalia.

The US military said it had killed six Islamic State fighters in drone strike carried out on Tuesday in Golis Mountains of Puntland in Somalia.
