Somalia bans waste dumping in its airport in Mogadishu

MOGADISHU, Somalia – Somalia has banned waste treatment in the International Airport in the capital of Mogadishu due to concerns over health and safety.

In a statement by Somalia’s acting premier Mahdi Mohamed Guleid said the ban includes treatment, incineration, and disposal of waste

He also informed his statement to heads of African Union and United Nations missions’ offices to the Somali capital Mogadishu.

He says the move comes as following growing concerns about health and safety posed by waste disposal and management facilities inside the airport of Mogadishu.

Mr. Guleid says Somalia notified that it was banning any forms of treatment of waste within the precincts of the Airport effective from 10th July 2019.

He says all stakeholders are required to take immediate steps to ensure that by 1st July 2019, and management of waste ceases inside Aden Adde International Airport of Mogadishu.
