Somalia: 9 dead, livestock washed way in flash floods

MOGADISHU, Somalia – At least nine people, including two children, have been killed in flash floods after heavy rain in Puntland land of Somalia

The flood has caused mass distractions and also submerged roads leading to the affected areas in Sanag, Sool and Berri regions in the north of Somalia.

Puntland says dozens of venerable people were evacuated to reduce human casualties, while its Interior Minister briefed the media in Garowe town.

He says about 100 families had lost their domestic animals after torrential rain and lightings

The link road between Garowe and Galkacyo towns has been washed away by the flash flood.

Puntland has called on United Nations humanitarian agencies to launch an urgent action to help the flood effected families.

In an interview, residents said flooding has left the roads and their houses submerged. Most of their livestock are left, adding that they have nothing to feed their children.

They said most of the victims were women and children and livestock.

However, the UN has issued warnings regarding high floods in parts of north and central Somalia.
