MOGADISHU, Somalia – A 9-year-old girl was gang raped in Bulo burde town, some 425 km west of the Somali capital, Mogadishu
The little girl, whose identity has been kept a secret, was taken into hospital after she was brutally raped in the town, her family said.
It is unclear whereabouts the rapists.
The girl’s family called for justice.
The brutal rape comes a day after a 20-years-old girl was stabbed to death in north of Galkayo town in central Somalia.
In March, a 12-years old girl Asha Ilyas was found dead and dumped near her home in the north of Galkacyo town, after she was abducted, raped and murdered.
In that case, a UN organization called for a speedy investigation into Aisha’s murder and for the enforcement of the Sexual Offenses Law, which criminalizes all sexual offences in the Puntland State of Somalia.
UNFPA says there simply is no place for violence against girls and women in the world.
It says its organization was striving to create where every girl in Somalia grows up able to experience her inherent dignity, human rights, and equality.
It is latest in a series of sexual attacks on women and young girls to shock Somalia.
