MOGADISHU, Somalia – Former deputy leader of al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab, Sheikh Mukhtar Robow known as Abu Mansor is set to regain his freedom, amid talks aimed to free him from the prison in Somali capital Mogadishu.
There has been a high level talks in Baidoa town, which were attended by south west state president Abdiasis Hassan Mohamed and clan elders, discussing Robow’s freedom.
Baidoa, a town, which situates about 250km south west of Mogadishu.
The talks were aimed to release Robow, according to KNN, a local radio based in Mogadishu.
The clan elders and president Mohamed agreed to release Robow from an undisclosed detention cell in Somali capital Mogadishu.
Robow was detained last December by security forces from Baidoa town, while he was running to contest public office in region state of Somalia.
He was, then airlifted to Mogadishu in suspicion of bringing weapons and militants in Baidoa town, according to statement released by Somali security ministry.
Robow, has however, defected from the jihadist group in 2017. It was hailed as a major step for peace hopes in Somalia.
