Deadly blast kills one, leaves 2 injured in Somalia

MOGADISHU, Somalia – A roadside bomb explosion has ripped through a vehicle carrying government officials and soldiers in Mahaas town in Hiran region of Somalia.

The explosion has killed deputy district commissioner of Mahaas in Hiran region of Somalia has been killed in an explosion.

Abdirashid Osman Arab was killed by a remote-controlled explosion in the center of the town, according to police officer, who asked to be anonymous.

He says two other soldiers also left wounded in the bomb explosion.

Friday’s attack was claimed by Al-Shabaab.

Al-Shabab, an al-Qaeda-linked group, often carried out similar attacks in Somali capital Mogadishu, leaving dozens dead.

The group is fighting to overthrow the weak UN-backed government in Somalia and impose its own strict interpretation of Islamic law.

It has lost control of many towns and cities to a 22,000-strong African Union force supporting the government.

But the group still has a strong presence in many rural areas.
