MOGADISHU – Somali armed group Al Shabaab claims to have killed over a dozen Kenyan army forces soldiers under African Union mission in bomb explosion in Madharan town.
In a statement aired by Radio Andulus, an al Shabaab mouthpiece said the group has been responsible for bomb attack on Kenyan armored personnel carrier in Somalia.
The group says it killed at least 15 Kenyan soldiers on board after bomb explosion.
“We have carried out a roadside explosion which killed 15 Kenyan soldiers and wounded scores”, the al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab said.
The group says Kenyan military helicopters airlifted several wounded soldiers into hospitals in Nairobi.
Kenyan military remained unavailable to comment on claims made by Al Shabaab.
Kenya has troops operating under African Union mission in Somalia known as AMISOM.
Nairobi sent its troops in Somalia in 2011 to thwart cross border attacks and kidnappings allegedly carried out by al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab.
The deadliest Islamic organization in Africa – Al Shabaab was accused of carrying truck bomb attack in 2017, which left over 500 people dead.
The group was ousted out of Mogadishu capital in 2011, but it still hold large swaths in south and central Somalia.
The al Qaeda linked group has been fighting more than ten years to topple the weak-western backed government of Somalia.
