Somalia, AU forces capture 9 Al Shabaab in operation

MOGADISHU, Somalia – Somali troops backed by African Union forces have arrested nine Al Shabaab militants in an operation carried out south of Mogadishu.

The operation was conducted near Sabid town, some 40km south of Mogadishu.

The African Union mission says the coalition forces had captured nine Al Shabaab militants, including a senior bomb expert during the operation.

The mission says its forces and Somali army troops came under ambush attack by Al Shabaab militants near the town.

But, it is unclear how many were killed in the fighting.

The all suspects were reportedly taken into custody for interrogations.

Sabid is a strategic bridge town liberated by African Union forces and Somali army troops following joint military operation.

The African Union reiterates its full and continued support the country’s security forces to restore peace in all regions of Somalia.
