Somalia, AU troops clash with Al Shabaab, 1 killed

MOGADISHU, Somalia – At least one soldier has been killed and two others were also injured in fighting between Somali army forces backed by African Union troops and Al Shabaab.

Somali military says its forces had repulsed an attack by Al Shabaab, adding that heavy casualty had inflicted upon the al Qaeda linked group’s militants.

The coaltion forces reportedly carried out joint military operation against Al Shabaab after the ambush attack.

It is unclear how many militants were arrested in the operation.

The al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab has been waging insurgency for more than ten years in Somalia.

Al Shabaab, which wants to topple the weak-western backed government of Somalia, was driven out of Mogadishu in 2011.
