MOGADISHU – Somali Especial Forces known as ‘Danab’ backed by US troops have carried out air and ground offensive against Al Shabaab near Marka town, some 91km south west of Mogadishu.
The operation was conducted in Jilib Marka area near the town, killing at least 22 militants, according to military officials, who asked to be anonymous.
Two senior militants’ commanders identified as Abu Sheikh Yasin Mohamed and Abu Mohamed Hamza were among those who were killed in the operation.
Somali military says drone strike also hit group’s militants in the area, inflicting heavy casualties upon them.
There was no immediate comment from Al Shabaab over the claims.
