MOGADISHU, Somalia – The U.S especial forces have launched last night air and ground raid on Al Shabaab –controlled town, about 94 km from Somali capital Mogadishu.

The operation triggered a fierce after U.S. forces, who dropped from helicopters came under ambush attack by heavily armed Al Shabaab in Janale town, a witness said.

He says the clash lasted for a while, causing untold facilities.

A drone strike also reportedly hit the group’s fighters during the operation.

It is unclear how many were killed or injured in the latest attack carried out in Somalia.

But, the al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab says it has foiled an orchestrated attack by U.S. especial forces.

Last week, U.S. military says it carried out air strike near Barire town, some 50km south west of Somali capital Mogadishu.

The strike killed 4 militants after Al Shabaab engaged Somali forces while conducting an operation to disrupt group’s illegal taxes and intimidation of civilians, said in a statement by US military.

U.S. says it would continue to work with Somali army forces and African Union troops fighting against Al Shabaab.

The al Qaeda linked Al-Shabab, which is fighting to overthrow Somalia’s government, routinely targets AU forces stationed in the country.

The group was pushed out of Mogadishu in 2011 by Somali troops backed by AMISOM soldiers.
