US troops kill 15 Al Shabaab in Somalia attack

MOGADISHU, Somalia – U.S military says it has carried out two separate air raid on Al Shabaab held towns in the last 48 hours in south of Somalia.

The first strike on Feb 6 occurred in Gandarshe area, some 30km away from Mogadishu, a strategic strip used by Al-Shabaab to smuggle men and vehicles into Mogadishu, killing 11 militants, according to US Africom command.

The U.S. military says the second strike took place on Feb 7 in the vicinity of Barire, some 50km south west of Somali capital Mogadishu, leaving 4 Al Shabaab militants dead

The al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab engaged Somali forces while conducting an operation to disrupt group’s illegal taxes and intimidation of civilians, said in a statement by US Africom.

U.S. says it would continue to work with Somali army forces and African Union troops fighting against Al Shabaab.

U.S. vows its forces will use all effective and appropriate methods to protect the Somali people, including partnered military counter-terror operations in Somalia.
