MOGADISHU, Somalia – The United Kingdom warned its citizens not travel into Somalia, including Somaliland, urging its nationals to leave for security reason.

In a statement by Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) said any British nationals in areas of Somalia to which the FCO advise against all travel should leave.

FCO says that “credible information indicates Westerners may be targeted by Al Shabaab extremists”.

FCO said in the statement that Al Shabaab is very likely to try to carry out attacks in Somalia.

“There is a high threat of kidnap throughout Somalia”.

The Al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab made threats against westerners and those working for western organizations, said in the statement.

“ There is a constant threat of terrorist attack in Mogadishu and terrorists continue to plan attacks against westerners in the rest of Somalia including Somaliland”, FCO said.

The warning comes just a day after a deadly al-Shabab attack on shopping mall in the capital, Mogadishu, in which at least 11 people were killed.
