MOGADISHU, Somalia – US air strike against al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab has killed at least 10 militants in southwest of Somali capital Mogadishu.

Somali military says the strike was carried out in an area, some 150km southwest of Somali capital, leaving 10 militants dead.

There was no immediate comment from US African commando over the latest air-strike in Somalia.

The attack comes after Somali especial forces, along with US troops launched joint operation.

Last year, sixty-two militants were killed by US airstrikes in Somalia, US Africa Command said in a statement.

The strikes, which targeted al-Shabaab militants, were conducted near Gandarshe, about 79km away from the capital of Mogadishu, according to the statement.

However, US says Al-Shabaab, al Qaeda’s largest affiliate, uses portions of southern and central Somalia to plot and direct terror attacks, steal humanitarian aid, extort local populace to fund its operations, and shelter radical terrorists in Somalia.
