MOGADISHU, Somalia – High level delegation led by the chief of Upper House of Somali Federal Parliament Abdi Hashi Abdullahi will be flying to Kismayo, a town lies some 500km south of the capital Mogadishu.
Hon. Abdullahi said the Upper House has been trying to defuse the escalating political crisis pitying between the central government and its member states for the past months.
He will hold talks with Jubaland state President Ahmed Mohamed to resolve the current political tension.
“We will visit to the headquarters of Jubaland to start talks the President Ahmed Madobe, in a bid to defuse the rifts between the central government and its state members”, he said.
He urged all regional parliaments to call off the pending motions aimed at voting out the states’ leaders and give enough a chance to the mediation efforts.
The escalating political crisis came after the regional state leaders announced on 8th September to have suspended relations with the central government based in Mogadishu.
Somalia’s state leaders accused central government of interfering regional issues and cut all working relationships with the Federal government, amid on-going political rifts.
The country’s regional leaders also chose to boycott a National Security Council meeting scheduled for Sept. 17 and 18 in Somali capital Mogadishu.
The country has struggled with civil war for decades, and AMISOM has been active there since 2007.
However, UN says the decision by the five regional presidents could embolden Al Shabaab and negate the gains made by the African Union Mission in Somalia.
