MOGADISHU, Somalia – At least one soldier from Djibouti with African Union peacekeeping force in Somalia has been killed in bomb explosions claimed by Al Shabaab.
The explosions went off in Buloburde town, some 200Km (125 miles) north of the capital, Mogadishu, leaving a soldier dead.
The explosions also injured another soldier, according to a military official, who asked to be unnamed.
He says a Djibouti soldier died after being fatally injured in an IED planted by Al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab.
He said that two militants were also killed last night after an IED device in which they were planting at Bulobarde airport prematurely exploded.
The bomb attacks were claimed by Al Shabaab.
The group said it has killed an African Union soldier and another wounded.
There was no immediate comment from African Union mission over the claims.
Al Shabaab group has been driven out of many urban areas since 2011 following joint military offensives carried out by African Union forces and Somali National Army forces.
The group still controls territory in rural areas and carries out gun attacks and bombings on military and civilian targets in the war-ravaged nation
