Nairobi, Kenya – Ambassador Yamamoto on November 23 was interviewed by VOA Journalist Sahra Abdi Ahmed. Her Tweet that, “the U.S. Embassy in Nairobi would move to Somalia, as early as December this year” does not accurately reflect what was stated during the interview. The United States is committed to strengthening ties and promoting stability in Somalia and, as such, Department personnel currently travel to Mogadishu on a recurring basis for diplomatic engagement. The United States is in the process of re-establishing a permanent diplomatic presence in Somalia.
