MOGADISHU – Somali MP has claimed to have escaped an assassination attempt after bomb explosives fitted into his pick-up vehicle exploded in Somali capital Mogadishu.

Hon. Dahir Amin Jesow said he was not in the car when the explosion went off along Maka Al Mukarama road in the capital.

He says the explosion had injured at least two people, including his driver as his car parked near Maka Al Mukarama hotel.

“I escaped from the bomb attack, which was aimed to me, but I was not in the car. I was nearby shopping mall. My driver and a passer-by civilian injured”, he said.

The victims were taken into hospital for medical treatment.

Somali police soldiers arrived at the scene of the explosion and carried out an operation over the attack.

No arrests have been made so far.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for Tuesday’s bomb explosion.

But such attacks are often carried out by Al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab.

The Al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab group has been driven out of many urban areas since 2011.

However, the group still controls territory in rural areas and carries out gun attacks and bombings on military and civilian targets in the war-ravaged nation.
