MOGADISHU – Deadly bomb explosion targeting US-trained Special Forces’ armored personnel carrier, has killed at least 3 soldiers near Somali capital Mogadishu.

The explosion hit armored vehicle carrying Somali Special Forces known as ‘Danab’ while travelling through Weido area near the capital of Mogadishu, a witness said.

He says the US –backed soldiers were heading to the capital.

The soldiers opened heavy gunfire to response to the bomb attack on Saturday.

No one has claimed responsibility for the latest attack although the al-Shabab militant group often stages such attacks in Mogadishu.

The group, which once controlled much of Somali capital Mogadishu in 2011, wants to topple the weak-western backed government of Somalia.

Somali forces backed by AMISOM ousted al-Shabab from the capital Mogadishu in August 2011, but the terror group is still in control of several areas in southern Somalia and capable of conducting attacks.
