Islamist group seizes weapons from Somalia, US forces in Mubarak

MOGADISHU — Somali Islamist group Al Shabaab has posed new photos what it says were recovered from US and Somali especial forces during joint raid last week in Mubarak town, some 37 miles west of Mogadishu capital.

The goup says its fighters had seized weapons, ammunations and other military items during joint raid on militants’ camp in Mubarak town.

In a statement aired by Radio Andulus, Al-Shabaab mouthpeice, said the group’s fighters repusled the attack launched by Somali forces, along with US forces.

Last week, US military said two militants were killed and another wounded in drone strike in the town.

US says the strike was carried out after its forces with Somali army troops came under attack by Al-Shabaab.

The military said no US soldier was killed or injured in the attack, but, saying a Somali soldier had been killed in the attack.

Somalia’s Intelligence Twitter feed, said its especial forces backed by US troops killed 3 militants in the raid.

“We killed 3 terrorists in joint military offensive againts Al Qaeda linked Al-Shabaab group in southwest of Somalia”, it said.

The Islamist group has been waging insuregency for more than 10 years in Somalia.

The group, which once controlled much of Mogadishu capital in 2011, wants to topple the weak-western backed govenment of Somalia.
