MOGADISHU- Somali security forces have arrested suspected al Shabaab militants in an operation in the capital Mogadishu.

The security forces detained suspects in what is being viewed as an attempt to curb the numerous attacks being mounted in Mogadishu, the country’s capital against military and civilian targets.

Somalia’s Intellegence Agency’s Twitter feed said the suspects were using residential areas as bases to prep for attacks and mingle with residents to carry out the attacks in the capital Mogadishu.

The suspects who are being held in custody will be questioned with security officials hoping to get more information from them regarding the al Shabaab operations and network in Mogadishu.

The group has been waging insurgency in Somalia for more than 10 years.

However, Al-Shabaab, which once controlled much of Somali capital Mogadishu in 2011, wants topple the weak-western backed government of Somalia.
