7 AU soldiers killed by Al Shabaab in Somalia

MOGADISHU, Somalia – Seven Ugandan peacekeeping soldiers with the African Union (AU) have been killed by Al Shabaab following an ambush attack in south of Somalia.

The attack took place near Qoryoley town, some 120km southwest of Somali capital Mogadishu, after Al Shabaab fighters ambushed Somali forces along with African Union soldiers.

Somali-based group of Al Shabaab claimed to have killed at least seven peacekeeping soldiers with the African Union (AU) in an attack in Gaywarow area near the town.

The group says the peacekeeping forces were dealt a heavy blow during the surprise attack.

There was no immediate comment from African Union mission in Somali capital Mogadishu over the claims made by Al Shabaab.
