Two Burundian soldiers killed in Al Shabaab explosion

MOGADISHU – Roadside bomb explosion targeting an armored personnel carrier has killed at least 2 African Union soldiers near Balcad town, some 30km north of Somali capital Mogadishu.

The explosion hit a convoy carrying Burundian soldiers serving under African Union mission in Somalia – AMISOM, while travelling into near Balcad town.

The Islamist group of Al Shabaab claimed to have killed at least 2 African Union soldiers from Burundi and injured 15 others in the bomb explosion.

“We carried out an explosion killed 2 soldiers and injured 15 others near Balcad town on late on Monday”, the group said.

The group says AMISOM helicopter had airlifted 15 injured soldiers from the town to Halane hospital in Mogadishu.

There was no immediate response from African Union mission in Mogadishu over the claims.
