Two people killed, 83 injured in blast at Ethiopian PM’s rally

Addis Ababa — At least two people have been killed and 83 others injured on Saturday in a blast at new Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s first rally in Addis Ababa.

The rally was attended by by tens of thousands of people, according to state media.

Ethiopian PM Abiy has just wrapped up his speech in the heart of Addis Ababa, shortly after the explosion.

Abiy says he was unharmed and left hurriedly.

Chief of Staff to Ethiopian PM says no deaths reported so far following Addis rally grenade attack.

He says nearly 83 other people had also injured, adding that six of them are in critical condition.

The cause of the blast was unknown and further details on the casualties were not immediately available.
