Somalia: African Union forces hit by explosion near Mogadishu

Roadside bomb explosion has ripped through an African Union personnel carrier near Bal’ad town, some 30km away from Somalia’s capital Mogadishu.

The explosion targeted an armored vehicle carrying Burundian forces serving under African Union peacekeeping mission in Somalia, a witness said.

He says the blast had partially destroyed the military convoy with AMISOM forces while heading to Jowhar town, the provincial capital of Middle Shabelle.

The exact figure of casualty remains unknown.

Neither Al Shabaab nor African Union mission has commented on the bomb attack in north of Mogadishu.
