Somalia: Deadly clash kills 4 soldiers near Baidoa

BAIDOA – Deadly gun battle has broken out between Somali National Army (SNA) forces and Al Shabaab fighters near Baidoa town, some 250km southwest of Mogadishu.

The fighting flared up on Thursday when heavily armed militants launched an ambush attack on military bases in Deynunay area, about 26km away from the town, according to residents.

Four government soldiers were killed in the latest clash, a military officer, asked to be anonymous said.

He says the fighters had briefly taken control of the area, following the government forces retreated.

The situation returned back to normal as local residents started to resume their daily live activities.

No word was available from Al Shabaab over latest clash near Baidoa town about 250km southwest of Mogadishu.
