MOGADISHU, Somalia –  Somali National Army (SNA) forces have re-taken control of Elwak town in Gedo region, military officials said.

The forces with battle-wagons have been seen moving into the town earlier on Wednesday morning, shortly after Al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab fighters retreated.

The group’s fighters took control of the town on Tuesday night peacefully, according to military officer, Hussein Ahmed Mohamed.

Mohamed says the military forces returned back to the town.

“Our withdrawal related to military strategies. As you see that we returned back to the town”, he said.

There was no  immediate comment from Al Shabaab over the claims.
