MOGADISHU, Somalia – Two gunmen, who were suspected to be members of Al Shabaab militants, have been shot dead by Somali forces earlier on Wednesday in the capital city of Mogadishu.

The suspects were killed by security agents after refusing to put down their pistols, according to a witness, who asked to be anonymous.

The incident happened at the biggest Bakara market of Somali capital Mogadishu.

Somali security minister, Mohamed Abukar Islow confirmed to the media that two men armed with pistols had been shot and killed by security forces known as SAMA group.

“Earlier today, SAMA security forces killed two Al Shabaab men armed with pistols. Our soldiers will continue neutralizing Al Shabaab assassins in Somali capital Mogadishu”, he said.

There was no immediate response from Al Shabaab over the Somali security forces’ claims.

In Mogadishu, at least 7 people were separately shot dead by unknown gunmen since the start of holy month of Ramadan.
