ISIL claims killing of police officer in Somalia

MOGADISHU, Somalia – Islamic State and Levant of Iraq [ISIL] group has claimed to have shot and killed a police officer in Somalia’s capital in Mogadishu.

The victim, whose name has not been released yet, was gunned down by a group’s fighter armed with a pistol near busy junction of Bakara market in the capital of Mogadishu, a witness said.

The group says it has been responsible for the assassination on its Amaq website.

“In Somali capital Mogadishu, we have killed a traffic police officer. We will continue targeting police and security officers”, the group said.

It is the 3rd such assassination carried out by ISIL group in Somalia over the past days.

Mogadishu has witnessed an increase of assassinations, grenade attacks and suicide bombings targeting government officials and popular eateries, leaving dozens of people dead as some of those attacks claimed by Al Shabaab.
