MOGADISHU, Somalia – At least 25 people have been killed and 12 others were also injured after heavy rains caused by Tropical Cyclone Sagar wreaked havoc in northern Somalia.
The cyclone has destroyed homes and domestic animals in Awadal and other parts of northwest of Somalia, according to Somaliland’s spokesman, Mohamud Warsame.
Warsame says tropical storm slammed into a region, leaving at least 25 people dead and 12 others injured.
He said up to 27 other people were still missing and rescue operation had also been started.
Most of the destruction has been felt in the Puntland and Somaliland regions of the East African country.
“80% of the livestock died following heavy rains caused by Tropical Cyclone Sagar wreaked havoc in northern Somalia”, he said.
Warsame added: “nearly 167, 250 families were also been damaged tornado”.
Thousands of people had been affected by the flooding, displacement and the destruction of infrastructure in Sagar’s wake, according to United Nations.
Mogadishu has been hit by heavy rains, causing major disruption as roads were washed away and the government relocated tens of families after their homes were flooded.
