MOGADISHU, Somalia – The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL, also known as ISIS) group has claimed an assassination in Somalia’s capital Mogadishu.
The group’s new video showed that one of its gunmen shot dead a Somali intelligence officer as victim, whose name has not been identified was on board while he was killed.
The ISIL group said it carried out four assassinations through its website – Amaq News – since the start of last April in Somalia.
It has accused the Qatari government of being involved in insecurities in Mogadishu. The group says Qatar started to back the Somali president Mohamed Abudllahi Farmajo.
The group has conducted several assassinations in Somalia, representing an increase in the number of attacks emanating from its fledgling East African affiliate.
In four of the five claims since April 15, the assassinations took place in Mogadishu.
