UPDF Operations In Somalia

he Uganda Peoples Defence Forces has been in Somalia as part of African Union Mission in Somalia AMISOM for nearly 11yrs.

With a force of about 5700 soldiers in Somalia, Uganda is in charge of Sector One. The sectoris in charge of Banadir region which covers Mogadishu city and Lower Shabelle region. The lower Shabelle region is a coastal line of India Ocean.

Uganda has three Battle Grounds in Somalia. The first battle ground is situated in Afgooye District, a distance of 30 kilomteres from Mogadishu. The second battle ground is situated in Ceelijalle, Merca District which is a distance of 125 kilometres from Mogadishu.

The last battle ground is situated in Barawe – south west of lower Shabelle which is a distance of 240 kilometres from Mogadishu.
