Somalia: Blast hits police station in Mogadishu

Mogadishu, Somalia – Deadly explosion targeting police station has left a soldier dead on Friday night in Somalia’s capital Mogadishu, a witness said.

The explosion happened at Wadajir after gunmen hurled grenade bombs into the station, killing a soldier, a witness, who asked to be anonymous said.

The soldiers guarding at station opened heavy gunfire to response to the bomb attack, according to local residents.

Two people were arrested on suspecion of the bomb attack at the police station, relaible sources siad.

The Islamist militant group Al-Shabaab has claimed responsibility for a bomb attack on its website, saying it killed senior police officer, whose name was not released yet

The greoup was designated as a foreign terrorist organization by the US in 2008. It carried out similar suicide attacks in Somali capital leaving dozens dead.
