Somali police officer shot dead in Mogadishu

Mogadishu, Somalia – Unknown gunmen have shot and killed a Somali police officer in Mogadishu, the latest in a string of assassinations in the seaside city of Somali capital in the past few months.

The victim, whose name has been identified as Ali was gunned down by hooded men armed with pistols in the city’s Bondhere area, a witness said on Thursday night on condition of anonymity.

The killers fled from the crime scene, shortly after the assassination.

The killing was claimed by Al Shabaab on its website, saying its assassins carried out the murder in Mogadishu.

The group also claimed an assassination of United Nation’s World Health Origination staff member, Mariam, Abdullahi, who was shot and killed at the biggest market in Somali capital Mogadishu.

The has vowed to rump up its assassinations against Somali officials and others, who work with International agencies in the country

Mogadishu has been witnessing series of assassinations against Somali Security personnel and civil servants, some claimed by the Al Qaeda-linked Al Shabaab based in Somalia.
