Deadly attack kills 4 people in Kenya

Mandera – Four people have been killed in an attack launched by suspected Al Shabaab gunmen in Shimbir Fatuma area, a remote location in Mandera town bordering Somalia, police said.

Kenyan National Police Spokesman, Charles Owino confirmed the attack, putting the death toll at least four civilian people.

Charles Owino says the victims were at the quarry during the attack.

“The militants targeted civilians, but we are pursuing the attackers,” he said.

He added 33 others were rescued, who were at the scene of the attack.

The attackers fled from area, shortly after Kenyan forces arrived.

Security was beefed up but it is unfortunate the attackers still managed to penetrate.”

Kenyan Defense forces and police soldiers launched major operation to hunt down the militants , who fled to unknown location, according to police.

Hundreds of heavily armed soldiers were seen near the scene of the attack, but no arrests were made over Thursday’s incident.

The attack comes after Kenyan teachers started fleeing over deadly attacks by the al-Shabaab extremist group targeting non-Muslim teachers and hundreds of schools near the Somali border to shut down as teachers flee for their lives.
