Somali police arrests Al Shabaab suspects near Baidoa

BAIDOA – Somali police soldiers, along with African Union troops have launched an operation against Al Shabaab militants near Baidoa town, some 250km southwest of Mogadishu.

The operation was carried out in Daynunay area near the town, arresting two men, who were accused of being members of Al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab.

In phone interview, police officer Mohamed Hussein said that the two men had been arrested while planting an IED explosive on the roadside.

Hussein says the detainees had been taken into police station for further investigations.

“We will continue such operations until we get ride off the militants in the region”, he said.

The group of Al Shabaab claimed deadly explosions targeting Somalia army and African Union forces’ vehicles near Baidoa town in southwest of Somali capital Mogadishu.
