US strike hits Al Shabaab in Somalia

Al-Shabab assassins have shot dead the father of Colonel Hassan Ali Nur Shute, the chairman of the Somali military court in Mogadishu on Tuesday evening, Garowe Online reports.

The U.S. military carried out more than 30 drone strikes past year against al-Shabab and fighters linked to the Islamic State group after the Trump administration approved expanded operations in the Horn of Africa nation.

The militants aim to topple Somalia’s government, to drive out African Union peacekeeping troops and to impose the group’s own strict interpretation of Islamic law.

The Sunni fundamentalists have for years fought for dominance in Somalia and want to create an Islamist state in the Horn of Africa country.
