AMISOM has begun its drawdown from Somalia and is reconfiguring its troop deployment across the country, to begin the handover of national security responsibilities to the Somali National Security Forces.
We will have our troop numbers reduced by 1,000 by 31st December 2017. Troop movements have started in different parts of the country and will continue for the coming weeks.
This is happening in line with recent decisions taken by the African Union and the United Nations Security Council.
