The Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission (SRCC) for Somalia, Ambassador Francisco Madeira, strongly condemns today’s terrorist attack at Nasa Hablood Hotel 2 in Mogadishu.

The AU Special Representative notes with sadness that this barbaric act coming just two weeks after the October 14th terrorist attack, points to a deliberate insistence by Al-Shabaab in targeting and taking the lives of innocent civilians and destruction of their source of livelihood.

He added that “the latest cowardly act yet again attests to Al-Shabaab persistent action to eliminate thriving businesses and deter progress being made by the hardworking Somali people in stabilizing their country. The attack is yet another proof of complete disregard for the sanctity of human life by Al-Shabaab terrorists in their quest to realize their selfish objectives.”

Ambassador Madeira presents his condolences to the bereaved families and prays for the quick recovery of those who have sustained injuries during this attack. He reiterates the continued commitment of the African Union and AMISOM to work side by side with the Somali people and their government to ensure that the remaining pockets of the terror group are destroyed.
